Survey: 4% Use iPhone During Sex    [ 19-06-2012 20:40 ]

The iPhone has certainly changed the smartphone market since it was first launched back in 2007. One of the hallmarks of the product is the high degree of loyalty it engenders and a recent survey from Gazelle, a gadget trading servicing, not only confirms that loyalty, but shows just how far some people are willing to take it. For example, 15% of those responding to the survey said that they would be prepared to go without sex rather than give up their iPhone. Perhaps more worryingly 4% of respondents said they had actually used their iPhone during sex.

The survey asked which device or platform users simply couldn't do without and interestingly enough Fcebook didn't come out on top. It was the iPhone with a 65% share of responses. By comparison only 1% said they couldn't do without Facebook. It wasn't all praise for the iPhone though as 40% said they wished the device had a bigger screen. That may be on the cards for the next generation iPhone if the rumours are to be believed.

Some other tidbits from the survey include:

  • 70% of iPhone owners responding to the survey said they had ditched their mp3 players since buying the phone.
  • More than half (55%) have gotten rid of their camera.
  • 40% have gotten rid of their GPS device.
  • 25% said they 'almost always' used their iPhone during social settings such as meals.
  • 85% said they used their iPhone whilst in the toilet.

Google Steps Up Work On Siri Competitor    [ 19-06-2012 18:57 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: WSJ     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Ever since Siri was unveiled last year there has been a constant stream of chatter over when Android users would get to see the equivalent for that platform. Google is known to be working on just such a service, but as yet hasn't launched anything. A report in the Wall Street Journal cites insiders from Google as having said that the Big G is ramping up its efforts though. Nothing useful like a launch date or a timeline was mentioned, but even so the idea that Google is speeding up its efforts in this area should give you an idea of how seriously Google takes voice interaction.

There are of course various third party apps available for Android that can duplicate some of what Siri offers iPhone users, but typically they don't have the same level of integration with Android as Siri does with iOS. Samsung has gotten in on the act too with its S Voice feature, but most are still watching Google itself to see what it will come up with. In that respect the current rumours are pointing towards Google wanting to make its offering more powerful than Siri, but as ever only time will tell.
