In a sign that embattled manufacturer RIM is still struggling to keep its head above the waves the company is looking set to lay off yet more employees. The Waterloo Record is reporting that RIM could be shedding as much as 10% of its global workforce, which would amount to approximately 2,000 employees losing their jobs. Last year the same paper reported that RIM was laying off people and a year on it's the same story. A spokesperson for RIM explained the layoffs:
RIM has committed to achieving significant efficiencies and operating cost reductions over the course of the fiscal year. Our financial target is to drive at least $1 billion in savings by the end of fiscal 2013. Head count reductions are part of this initiative.
RIM has already shed 2,000 jobs earlier this year too and alongside this latest wave of redundancies the total job loss could be as high as 6,000.

Today is a great day for anyone who believes that the music industry is an ass. Today the last remaining British ISP not blocking the Pirate Bay, British Telecom, was forced into compliance with the decree that British internet users are not to view sites that the music industry doesn't want them to see. In short access to the Pirate Bay has now been blocked for all British internet users.
Within minutes, literally, of British Telecom instigating this final blocking of the Pirate Bay for residents of the United Kingdom a proxy was available that gave British internet users complete access to the Pirate Bay. Not only does this make a mockery of the block itself, it also makes a mockery of the music industry and their ridiculous and vain attempts to shore up their outdated business model by using the legal system against British citizens. The music industry pushed hard for this ban and yet it was rendered completely useless within minutes.
Today is a great day.
