Fujitsu has been doing the geek tease dance at CES, distributing a charming little leaflet that promises a handset sure to excite the mobile geeks amongst us (and if you're reading this the chances are you are that sort of geek). The leaflet portends to a new handset the company has waiting in the wings that will be running Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) and features a quad-core Tegra 3 CPU. Being a tease Fujitsu doesn't actually say when this beauty will see the light of day, but with CES in full swing it's not a bad bet to imagine that it might be much sooner rather than later.

The long wait for USB 3.0 is almost over! What, you haven't been chomping at the bit for USB 3.0? Well it's coming anyway, by the end of the year in fact. That's according to Rahman Ismail, the chief technology officer of the USB Implementers Forum. Mobile devices will start to feature micro-USB slots compatible with the USB 3.0 standard and should see data transfer rates of up to 800 Mbps. That's actually considerably slower than the speeds seen on PCs where the full blown ports should deliver transfer rates of up to 5 Gbps. Even so the new ports will mean faster USB charging for mobile devices due to the greater flow of power that USB 3.0 can handle. The reduced data speeds for mobile devices, when compared with PCs, is still a significant boost beyond current levels as Ismail explained: "What takes 15 minutes will roughly take 1 minute and 10 seconds".
For those wondering about how this will factor into Intel's rival Thunderbolt technology, the two standards can work side by side with newer PCs featuring ports for both. Of course that doesn't necessarily mean that both will happily co-exist, but which one wins out is perhaps not quite the dilemma for users as it might be if they weren't both featured alongside one another.

Acer are releasing the originally titled AcerCloud service in the second quarter of 2012 for Android devices and Acer branded PCs. What is AcerCloud you might ask? Well in a nutshell it allows users to use the cloud to backup and share content. For example, PicStream (yes it really is that blatant) allows users to take a photo using their Android smartphone and said photo is whizzed straight to their PC and can then be shared with other devices. Similarly AcerCloud Docs allows for documents to be saved in the cloud and then handled by various devices connected to the user's account. Acer will be using their clear.fu Media app to allow users to access their various multimedia content from the cloud too.
Does all of this sound familiar? Well yes of course it does as it's pretty much what Apple has done with iCloud. Now to be fair to Acer, whilst this does look like an obvious rip-off of Apple's service what can we expect them to do? More and more applications and services are moving to the cloud and frankly it would be foolish to expect other companies to leave it all to Apple. The thing is though Apple has such tight control over every aspect of their ecosystem, from content to hardware to software that they can make sure everything works seamlessly. Acer, on the other hand, doesn't have such tight control so how its service will fare in terms of the end user experience remains to be seen.
