Android Adoption Outpaces iOS By 2 To1    [ 26-09-2011 16:34 ]

Nielsen have just released some new fugures and they show a huge surge for Android at the expense of its main rival, Apple's iOS. The figures cover a period of three months ending in August and during that time customers who bought a new smartphone overwhelmingly opted for an Android device. 58% choose an Android smartphone whilst just 28% bought either the iPhone 4 or the iPhone 3GS. RIM barely registered at all with just 9% of those surveyed choosing a BlackBerry.

There are some mitigating circumstances though, for both Apple and RIM. In RIM's case the company's new BlackBerry 7 handsets hadn't launched during the period covered by this survey so that would have had some effect. Mind you those handsets haven't been greeted with universal acclaim so how much of an effect they will have remains to be seen.

In Apple's case there is an elephant in the room in the form of the iPhone 5. That one handset has the capability to turn that figure of 28% completely on its head for Apple. It isn't so much a case of if it will improve Apple's sales, but rather a case of how much it will increase them by.

Analyst: Nokia's First Windows Phone Device Delayed    [ 26-09-2011 16:22 ]

Author: Ivanov Konstantin   Source: via IntoMobile     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

An analyst, Scott Moritz, has been pouring some cold water on Nokia's ambitions of getting a Windows Phone smartphone to market this year. Moritz says that his sources have told him Nokia's first Windows Phone device, codenamed 'SeaRay' has been delayed and that it will be unlikely to see the light of day before the end of the year.

The plan was for Nokia to launch their first Windows Phone device later this year in Europe and that's still the line Nokia are holding to for the moment despite Moritz's claim. Doug Dawson, aNokia spokesman, was quick to answer Mortiz; "We have increased confidence we will ship our first Windows Phone product this year". Ok so that's corporate speak, but even so it's basically Nokia's word against Moritz's.

Check out Moritz in the video below:
