iPhone 5 Re-Design Clues Pop Up From Case Maker    [ 15-09-2011 19:31 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: via BGR     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

iPhone 5 rumourmongering could become an Olympic sport given how much of it has been happening of late, but most of the recent bevy of rumours have been focused on when it will go on sale. Today a webpage from casemaker Case Mate opened up another rumour front though, well more like it re-opened an existing front in that it's to do with the design of Apple's next generation iPhone.

The page contained images of the new cases that will go on sale for the iPhone 5 and judging by the design of those cases the new iPhone will not be a carbon copy of the iPhone 4. For one thing it seems that it could be even thinner and also feature a larger screen, something that has been a persistent staple of iPhone 5 rumours for a while now.

The new cases also suggest tapered edges for the iPhone rather than the mono-block design of the iPhone 4. Now it is worth pointing out that these images are mock-ups so just how close they reflect the design of the iPhone 5 is still in question, but it is at least a tantalising glimpse into what is sure to be the year's most (over) hyped product.

France Telecom CEO: iPhone 5 Launching 15th October    [ 15-09-2011 18:32 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: TechRadar     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Another day another iPhone 5 release date rumour. It was only the other day that O2 in the UK were behind a rumoured 21st October release date. Today it's the turn of France Telecom whose CEO has been saying that the European launch of the device will take place on 15th October, not the 21st. He told French reporters that "If we believe what we have been told, the iPhone 5 will be released on 15 October". To be fair all the recent release date rumours seem to be swirling around an October timeframe, but that timeframe is swaying between 7th and 21st October depending upon which rumour you subscribe to.

Ballmer: Windows Phone Not Selling As Well As Hoped    [ 15-09-2011 18:16 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: AllThingsD     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Windows Phone was billed as the 'third ecosystem' after Android and iOS, but ever since it launched there have been persistent queries concerning how well it was actually selling. To be honest even now, almost a year after it first launched it's still not entirely clear just how many units have been sold. What is clear though is that it hasn't been selling as well as was first hoped.

How do we know this for sure? Steve Ballmer said so. In a meeting with financial analysts on Wednesday Ballmer told them "We haven't sold quite as many as I would have liked in the first year". Don't worry though because Microsoft have a plan up their sleeves so cunning that it could have been uttered by Baldrick ... Nokia! Essentially Microsoft are pinning their hopes on Nokia's entry to the Windows Phone sphere. In Ballmer's own words "With Nokia we have a dedicated hardware partner that is all-in on Windows Phone".

For their part Nokia is committed to Windows Phone, they have to be as Stephen Elop has pretty much bet the future of the company on it.
