HP's decision to effectively drop webOS was certainly a big move and despite the corporate speak webOS is pretty much dead in the water at the moment. It wasn't just the blogosphere that got a shock by the move, Wall Street also reacted, with HP's share price dropping a hefty 20% the day after the announcement was made. Well that appears to be too much for some to bear and one HP shareholder has launched a class action lawsuit against HP.
Richard Gammell, the shareholder in question, alledges that HP did not inform investors that webOS was no longer a major part of the company's strategy and that HP changed its business plan without duly notifying its shareholders. What that amounts to, according to Gammell, is an artificial inflation of the HP share price and Gammell is looking for damages to be paid to shareholders who bought stock between 22nd November last year and 18th August this year.

The question isn't if Nokia will release a Windows Phone device, but rather when. We still don't have an exact answer to that yet, but a tweet from Nokia Australia has at least narrowed it down somewhat.
Now even though the first handsets will be shipping late this year that doesn't necessarily mean they will be in full swing. It will probably be early next year before we see real volume from Nokia so it won't be until then that we can get a feel for how well Nokia's gamble is paying off.

The Boy Genius Report managed to score one on one time with RIM's first touch BlackBerry Curve, the BlackBerry Curve 9830 (Orlando). The handset features an 800 MHz processor, which sounds so out of date these days if I'm being honest. The display is 3.25 inches, which again feels sort of behind the times when compared with the current crop of touchscreen smartphones. There is a 5MP camera with support for 720p HD video at least and 1 GB of internal memory and NFC support. It should be out in the shops within a few months.

Google have expanded their Voice actions service across several European countries today. Smartphone and tablet users running at least Android 2.2 will be able to make calls, send SMS and of course use Google search just by speaking to their device. It's a familiar story to those already with the service; tap the microphone button on the homescreen and say something. The countries (and languages) now supported are France/French, Germany/German, Spain/Spanish, Italy/Italian and the UK with British English being supported.
