Some tantalising links appeared at music.google.com today before quickly vanishing. Apparently visiting that site with an Android phone brought up two suggestions for you to try: upload your own music or 'shop millions of songs in the Android Market'. The links were reportedly broken, but nevertheless a link to market.android.com/music is a bit of a giveaway that Google's much anticipated music service is close at hand. Unfortunately all signs of this are now gone (at the time of writing), but here are a couple of screenies to whet your appetite for the real thing.

You like your Nexus One right? You're looking forward to getting your hands on IceCream Sandwich right? Well you are going to be disappointed because it's not coming, at least not officially. Sony Ericsson is no more. The joint venture between Sony and Ericsson is to come to an end after 10 years with a deal that sees Sony buying Ericsson's 50% stake in the company. It's perhaps not a surprising move given that Sony Ericsson, despite some impressive handsets of late, has struggled to grow in the market or set itself apart from the competition. Sony will no doubt be looking to boost their mobile efforts and tie in their other product lines with this deal.
The deal itself is worth almost £1 billion and also sees Sony acquiring five key patents that are essential to actually making mobile phones. Furthermore Sony have struck a licensing agreement for other Ericsson patents, no doubt with a view to avoiding the legal nightmare Smasung and co have found themselves embroiled in.
The company will remain branded as Sony Ericsson according to our very own Eldar, but that should only last for the next two years or so. After that Sony are likely to rebrand the mobile division as Sony. So whilst the name Sony Ericsson will survive for a little while yet the end of an era is upon us nevertheless.
