Folders are still out of reach for Windows Phone users, but as you can see in the video below that may be about to change. The folders look pretty much like live tiles, but give them a tap and a menu pops open listing any apps you've decided to throw in that particular folder. Pretty sweet eh? It's not a done deal though, the work is still ongoing so it isn't actually out yet, but the devs behind promise a release 'soon'. In the meantime take a look at what you might soon get your hands on.

Whilst Android was busy racing past iOS in the mobile download stakes it was also extending its lead in the advertising stakes too. Millenial have just released new data for their network, which shows continued growth for Android and a very healthy lead over iOS.Android accounted for 56% of impressions by the end of the September quarter, which was double iOS, which had 28%. Even if iOS is trailing Android it is still way out in front of third placed RIM, which could only muster up 13% of impressions. Windows Phone is barely worth mentioning, having just 1% (and that's after being combined with Windows Mobile).
Android didn't get it all its own way though as the iPad is the dominant force in the tablet world having grown by a mammoth 456% between Q3 2010 and the last quarter with figures in 2011. For its part iOS grew by 60% over the same time period. In terms of manufacturers Apple was also at the top of Millenial's list with a 23.09% share and Samsung brought up the read in second place with 16.48%. Apple was also seeing success in terms of handset popularity across Millenial's network with its iPhone (12.55% share) compared with the LG Optimus in second place with 6.3%.

Android has overtaken iOS as the world's top smartphone app vendor. In the second quarter of this year ABI Research figures show that Android surpassed iOS, and by a hefty amount to boot. Android accounted for 44% of global mobile app downloads compared to iOS with 31%. Lim Shiyang, a researcher at ABI, was quick to point to Android's open source nature as the chief reason behind the surge:
Android's open source strategy is the main factorfor its success. Being a free platform has expanded the Android device install base, which in turn has driven growth in the number of third party multi-platform and mobile operator app stores. These conditions alone explain why Android is the new leader in the mobile application market.
To be fair to iOS though it still retains a 31% share of the global app market and it does this despite not being an open platform and not working across scores of devices. Android's accomplishment is certainly impressive, but arguably iOS is pulling off a bigger feat given its relatively limited scope as well as its relatively high price tags. Nevertheless Android is on the upswing (still). Second quarter growth for the platform stood at 36% and 9% for iOS. As successful as iOS may be Android is most definitely stealing the show.
