Gingerbread Is Coming To Nexus One At Last    [ 23-02-2011 22:15 ]

Author: Oleg Kononosov   Source: Google     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Good news everybody! (How many read that in a Prof. Farnsworth voice?). Google's Nexus One handset is getting the much anticipated Gingerbread update!

The update will see the Nexus One move up to Android version 2.3.3, which is also being sent out to Nexus S owners meaning that both handsets will be reading from the same hymn sheet, so to speak, for the first time.

The update for the Nexus S sees some new features for NFC as well as sorting out a problem with with rebooting. There's some change on the Facebook front too with contact syncing disabled unless Facebook alters its Android app to allow the actual export of contacts. At the moment it just shows contacts even though they actually aren't stored in the handset's contact list.

That might seem like a negative point, and it is to an extent, but Google's reasoning is that users may get confused since the contacts aren't really present on the phone. Hence if a user were to back up his contacts the Facebook entries wouldn't be included. It's a fair enough point.

Oddly enough the same rule doesn't apply to the Nexus One, syncing contacts with Facebook will work just as it always has. Of course Nexus One users will be getting more out of the update since it will bring everything else Gingerbread has to offer.

The updates should be whizzing their way through the air over the coming weeks.

iPad 2 Event Scheduled For 2nd March    [ 23-02-2011 21:55 ]

Author: Oleg Kononosov   Source: The Loop     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

If you thought the iPad 2 was going to be unveiled today then I'm afraid it's a date with disappointment for you because Apple have been sending out press invites for a 2nd March event that should see the device officially announced.

The event will of course be held in the Yerba Buena Centre for the Arts, an Apple staple, at 10 am PST. Recent rumours had pegged the iPad 2 as being delaye duntil at least the summer, but that's been safely debunked now.
