Win Phone 7 Update Failure Update    [ 24-02-2011 17:25 ]

Microsoft have been giving some details of the problems encountered by users trying to install the recent Windows Phone 7 update and it seems there is not one, but three distinct issues at work.

First off Microsoft says that only 10% or so of users encountered a problem so the vast majority were able to install the update without any issues. Of those who did encounter a problem somewhere in the region of half ran into one of two errors; low storage space and a lack of a reliable connection to the internet.

The latter is easy enough to explain, without a reliable connection for an OTA update it's probably not going to be plain sailing. The former is a little more ironic though because the problem with low storage was compounded by the fact that the update backed up the user's data in case something went wrong. In other words to avoid data loss it took up so much space that the update failed. Oh the irony!

The third problem was Samsung specific and Microsoft say they are working on a fix for this. Until that happens they have switched off the update for the affected Samsung handsets.

Video: Android Activations Spreading Like A New Dawn Across The World    [ 24-02-2011 16:25 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Android Central     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

To say Android is growing fast is a real understatement, but it's not always easy to picture just how rapid, and vast, that growth actually is. Well here we have a very swish animation showing Android activations around the world over time.

The video also shows activations on a continent basis and also shows the aftermath of big handset launches like the Moto Droid.
