New Apple Boss: We're Not Changing    [ 25-08-2011 15:40 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Ars Technica     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The big story of the day is obviously Steve Jobs' resignation as the head of Apple, the company he helped to found. His replacement in the top job has been gettng less attention though, especially odd as he is now running one of the most valuable companies in the world. Well if the media have been ignoring Tim Cook then Tim Cook hasn't been ignoring his employees. Ars Technica managed to get a hold of an internal email the new boss sent out. You can read the email in full below, but the main point to take away from it is Cook's line that "Apple is not going to change".

The full email:

Team: I am looking forward to the amazing opportunity of serving as CEO of the most innovative company in the world. Joining Apple was the best decision I’ve ever made and it’s been the privilege of a lifetime to work for Apple and Steve for over 13 years. I share Steve’s optimism for Apple’s bright future.

Steve has been an incredible leader and mentor to me, as well as to the entire executive team and our amazing employees. We are really looking forward to Steve’s ongoing guidance and inspiration as our Chairman.

I want you to be confident that Apple is not going to change. I cherish and celebrate Apple’s unique principles and values. Steve built a company and culture that is unlike any other in the world and we are going to stay true to that—it is in our DNA. We are going to continue to make the best products in the world that delight our customers and make our employees incredibly proud of what they do.

I love Apple and I am looking forward to diving into my new role. All of the incredible support from the Board, the executive team and many of you has been inspiring. I am confident our best years lie ahead of us and that together we will continue to make Apple the magical place that it is.

Tim

Back in the spring there were some rumblings of a new HTC handset called 'Bliss'that was ostensibly going to be targeted at women. Some more details of the ahndset have emerged since then of course, such as its 3.7 inch screen, 800 MHz processor and the fact that it will run the latest version of HTC's Sense UI. Today, however, saw some nice clear images of the handset leak out. Yes I said clear. No Mr Blurrycam here tank you very much. Enjoy!

Microsoft Confirms Front Facing Camera & Skype Support For Mango Devices    [ 25-08-2011 10:31 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: via Engadget     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Microsoft have today confirmed that Mango will indeed bring with it handsets featuring front facing cameras for video calling, with Skype support. The possibility of such a feature was hinted at when Microsoft showed off the SGH-i937 running Mango last month. That handset featured a front facing camera and today's announcement via Twitter really just confirms that. Of course the Skype support is no surprise either given Microsoft's acquisition of the comapny.
