Dell Launching 7-Inch Tablet Within Weeks    [ 29-09-2010 17:14 ]

Author: Ivanov Konstantin   Source: BGR     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Dell are set to launch a 7-inch tablet device 'in the next few weeks' according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. The revelation comes from Dell's president of Greater China, Amit Midha, who said "It [the 7-inch tablet] was showed off at Oracle World by Michael [Dell's CEO] last week and we'll be launching very, very soon - within the next few weeks". It will be running Android according to Mr Midha, but he did drop it in that Dell were looking at Windows 7 for tablet devices too and that Chromium OS was also on the table. He then went on to say that Dell planned a 10-inch tablet device and a 3-inch tablet device., all within the next year or so. Isn't a 3-inch tablet a smartphone though?

Android Reversing iOS Mobile Ad Gains In U.S.    [ 29-09-2010 16:37 ]

Author: Ivanov Konstantin   Source: Android and Me     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Android continues its seemingly relentless march towards market leadership in a new set of figures that shows the little green robot that could climbing up the ranks of mobile ad marketshare. Counting from January Android has managed to increase its ad consumption by a whopping 100%, no doubt thanks to the plethora of new devices that have been released for the platform.

The report from Millenial Media shows that the ad market leader, iOS, fell some 7% during the period from July, but that Android hoovered that 7% up. Still iOS retains a 48% share of the American ad market with Android in second place at 26%. The gap is almost certain to narrow as time passes and yet more Android devices flood into the market. Interestingly enough the Motorola Droid alone accounted for 9.44% of sales, second only to the iPhone at 27.67%, and was by far the most successful Android handset in the States.

White iPhone 4 Just Around The Corner?    [ 29-09-2010 16:26 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: The App Whisperer     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The white iPhone 4 is sort of like the electric car at this point, we keep being promised that it's about to hit the big time and everyone will be able to buy one, but it never quite materialises. Originally it was slated for a late July release date, but that came and went before Apple eventually said that the white version was 'more challenging' than expected to manufacturer and that consequently it would be sometime later this year before we'd see the fabled handset.

Well it is now later this year and there is still no sign of this beast, but The App Whisperer has managed to glean a photo of a price tag from Walmart showing the white version for sale at the same price as the existing black version. It could mean that the white version really is just around the corner, or we could just be raising our hopes yet again ...

iPad Hacked To Run Chromium OS    [ 29-09-2010 16:21 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Hexxeh via Gizmodo     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Chromium hasn't hit the masses yet, but that hasn't stopped one enterprising hacker from getting it up and running on his iPad. To be fair the image below could have been doctored or even a setup i.e. a screengrab from the Photos app, but the hacker behind this, Hexxeh, does have a record in Chromium OS so the whole shebang is lent some credibility. The hack came to light in a tweet the hacker made from the said iPad, but he did mention that this wasn't all sunshine and lollipops: "I'll dash your hopes later, there are a few catches" he tweeted before going onto say that "You can't use it as a normal iPad without a restore sadly though."
