The Samsung i8700 has been getting the video walkthrough treatment in a thirteen ad a half minute video. The handset, which some are speculating will be known as the Omnia 7, is not entirely unfamiliar to the regular reader of course, but the video is definitely worth a watch, especially as you get to see the camers in action, which is an are aof Win Phone 7 devices previously left untouched by most of these videos and pictures.

HTC have released their figures for quarter three and it's good news for the company ... profits are up ... way up! HTC raked in some $360 million in profits during Q3 this year, which is roughly double their profits for the same period last year. No doubt much of that success is down to handsets like the Desire, which has proven consistently popular, even in the face of strong competition from other devices, such as the iPhone 4.
There was a rather strange comment made by an analyst looking over the results though. Steven Tseng, of RBS in Taiwan, noted that "Investors are comfortable with HTC's status in the Android market. HTC will keep a stable position, even if it is not a leader in the sector." That doesn't seem to make much sense given that HTC is almost single handedly powering Android's handset sales. Sure Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Motorola have some nice devices out, but in terms of a global leader for Android it has to be HTC.

There are certain constants in life, taxes, death, your Big Mac never looking like it does on the menu ... and Steve Ballmer providing some great quotes for all the wrong reasons. This time the Microsoft CEO has been taking some potshots at everyone's favourite internet titan, Google. Specifically he's been criticising Android.
Ballmer was speaking at an event in the UK when he made comments about Android's fragmentation issues, saying that devs had to follow official updates with new versions of their apps and that not all Android handsets get the same updates at the same time. To be fair to Ballmer these are valid points and they are areas that Google needs to address moving forward. However, Ballmer is on thin ice here given his own company's track record in the mobile space.
Lest we forget Windows Mobile has all but been obliterated by the likes of Android and iOS. Even before it began to implode Windows Mobile was hardly what you would call the pinnacle of mobile platforms. Clunky, awkward to use, and very much finger unfriendly to name but a few of its less attractive qualities.
Maybe Ballmer felt he could gloat a little given the forthcoming launch of Windows Phone 7, which has so far received mostly positive nods from the tech press. Hold on a moment though, positive nods are one thing, the platform is still unreleased and untested with the general public. It seems a bit early for Ballmer to be throwing stones at glass houses. Ballmer obviously doesn't see it that way though and he summed up his attitude in a great little soundbite that tries to downplay just how bad Windows Mobile had really become:
