Opera have confirmed that their Opera Mini for iPhone browser has been submitted to Apple for approval. It's certainly not a done deal with many believing that Apple will reject Opera's browser out of hand since it replicated some of the iPhone's 'core functionality' i.e. Safari. However, having said that the recent tete-a-tete between Apple, Google, AT&T and the FCC may be enough to stay Apple's hand over the reject button. Check out the video below to see Opera Mini for iPhone in action. It's pretty damn fast and I could see this totally outshining Safari. Speed is maintained even over 2G and EDGE networks, the video demoing this quite succicently by showing Opera Mini having loaded 5 web pages in the time it took Safari to load just one.

If all goes to plan then we should see Opera Mini available in the app store in around a fortnight, but if all does not go well what next for the plucky little browser that could? Well Opera have said that if it is rejected it won't be released in the wild i.e. it won't be released through Cydia. So if you want a shot at Opera Mini for iPhone you'd better hope Phil Schiller is in a good mood that day.
