Video: Google Explains Google TV    [ 16-06-2010 17:33 ]

Author: Ivanov Konstantin   Source: Slash Gear     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Do you know what Google TV actually is or does? If you answered 'no' then don't feel embarrassed because you're not alone. In a nutshell it converges streaming video feeds, picture galleries, search. and cable box control using a single UI that integrates with your normal TV watching habits. Clearly Google feel that their new service may not be entirely understod though because they've whipped up this very handy video to explain it all. The video isn't rocket science to be sure, but it does at least explain the concept so that just about anyone can understand Google TV ... maybe.

Orange Unveils iPhone 4 Pricing    [ 16-06-2010 17:13 ]

Author: Ivanov Konstantin     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Orange is the first UK network to reveal its iPhone 4 pricing plans for both pay monthly and PAYG customers and as you might expect the prices are eye watering. If you're looking to get the handset for free then you had best be prepared to stump up £75 every month  for two years. For those who are looking to spend less each month the iPhone 4 will cost anywhere between £29 and £169 for tariffs ranging from £30/month to £45/month for two years. All those prices are for the 16 GB model, the 32 GB model is even more expensive again! Opting for an 18 month contract might shave 6 months off your contract but it doe spush the up-front cost of the phone up considerably with the 16 GB model coming in at anywhere from £99 to £269. You can check out the full range of pay monthly tariffs and their PAYG counterparts here.

What is of particular interest with these tariffs though is Orange's plans for data usage. Rival network O2 has come under a storm of fire from customers for scrapping its unlimited data allowances with its iPhone tariffs and Orange look to have laearned something from O2's blundering. Orange are advertising their iPhone tariffs has including 'unlimited' data browsing, albeit with a fair usage cap of 750 MB. It's certainly not unlimited in the traditional sense of the word, but Orange are no doubt betting that most customers won't look at the fine print and will simply see the wor d'unlimited'. That could prove a key differeniator from rival O2, which now has the stigma of not having 'unlimited' data attached to it.

Video: New Samsung Tablet Appears    [ 16-06-2010 16:43 ]

Author: Ivanov Konstantin   Source: Engadget     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Samsung have been filling up blog columns recently with the unveiling of their 7-inch tablet, the Galaxy Tab. Well today a Samsung tablet that appears not to be the Galaxy Tab has cropped up on video for your perusing pleasure. The screen is the same size as the Tab, 7 inches, but the tablet shown in the video isn't running Samsung's TouchWiz UI as the Tab was shown to be running and this new tablet also features different onscreen controls. The tablet in the video is also carrying a designation of 'P1000'. One particular high point to watch out for in the video is the onscreen dial-pad, which would seem to confirm the speculation that Samsung is intending for its tablets to be used to make phone calls. Check out the video below and see for yourself.

European HTC Hero Owners Finally Get 2.1 Upgrade    [ 16-06-2010 15:59 ]

Author: Ivanov Konstantin   Source: Pocket-lint     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

One of the most annoying parts of Android has been its fragmentation, which has often seen users of particular handsets having to wait a while before receiving an upgrade to the latest version, especially if their handset is running a customised UI. The HTC Hero probably embodies that frustration more than any other handset given the length of time its users have waited in various parts of the world for an upfeade to Android 2.1. Well the long wait is finally over, at least for Europeans. HTC are pushing the update out as an OTA upgrade across Europe, with customers receiving notifications from yesterday. HTC's support site confirmed the move "In our commitment to providing you with the best user experience, we are pushing out a new firmware update to your HTC Hero. Your phone will receive a notification of this update when it is made available." The same update will be made available across the entire European market except for Ireland, Greece and the Nordic countries which will receive a different build of the firmware. Keep your eyes peeled for it people!
