Video: N9 Promo Video or Well Made Fake?    [ 14-06-2010 15:15 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Pocket-lint     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Everyone likes a good old fashioned rumour and here we have one in the form of an alleged promo video of the rumoured Nokia N9. There is a fair amount of chatter on the interwebs about this video with a sizeable contingent claiming that it is the rea deal and that what you are looking at really is the forthcoming MeeGo powered N9. The video undeniably looks like it could have come from Nokia, but of course the quality of the video means nothing in this day and age, it could have easily been knocked up by a skilled amateur. The device featured in the video has a slide out QWERTY keyboard, the keys having a rubbery appearance. It's a decent looking handset it has to be said, which means that either Nokia have designed something people are likely to want or that Nokia should hire the amateur who faked the video as he has designed something people are likely to want.

Video: HTC EVO Gets Inductive Charging Coil    [ 14-06-2010 13:01 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Engadget     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The HTC EVO has been causing a bit of a stir Stateside, not only for the fact that it's a beast of a smartphone with top of the range specs, but also for the fact that it's the first 4G device to be available in the States. About the only thing that the EVO doesn't have lurking under the hood is an inductive charging unit, but fear not for the boys at the Internet have seen to that defficiency! They carried out a little transplant work using  Palm Pre as a donor for the inductive charging coil and soldered it into a EVO in an operation that took around 30 minutes. Now before all you budding electrical engineers go reaching for the soldering iron be warned, the procedure renders the compass useless and there is a definite bulge to the EVO afterwards. You can check out the results in the video below.

Video: Just How Sharp Is the iPhone's Retina Display?    [ 14-06-2010 11:36 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Scobleizer     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Ok so the iPhone 4 is promising a great new screen (que lots of superlative adjectives from Apple), but there has been an inordinant amount of debate over this particular feature. Some are saying that Jobs is out and out lying about his claims on the retina display, others are saying its creative marketing and others are saying that this really is the greatest thing for our vision since we evolved eyes. Well Scobleizer have produced a handy video showing the iPhone 4 taking on the New York Times, a pretty good page for showing off the display so you should get a good idea of just how good the display really is. Make sure you choose the HD option to get the full effect!
