Video: 720p Recording on Nexus One    [ 09-06-2010 14:30 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: XDA-Developers via Engadget     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Is there anything rooting can't do? Well probably, but it can certainly bring HD video recording to the Nexus One! That's right, the boffins over at XDA-Developers have done it again, this time bumping up the Nexus One's video capture capabilities to being able to record video at 720p. Work is apparently already underway on improving the hack to include better audio quality and an improved fps rate. There is also talk that work has begun on making this compatible with Froyo (Android 2.2). For those looking to give this a bash head on over to XDA-Devs for the download and be warned that if you are looking to get some of this action you're going to need the CyanogenMod (version 5.08 test3) on your Nexys One. For everyone else enjoy the video of this mod in action below.

Video: Blackberry OS 6.0 Run-through    [ 09-06-2010 12:18 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Driphter.com     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Driphter.com has poste dup a nice video of them taking Blackberry OS 6.0 through its paces. The OS was running on a prototype of the Blackberry 9670, a clamshell CDMA handset that is heading for America's Sprint network. Driphter were able to confirm features in the OS such as customisable icns on the homescreen and the inclusion of a new search feature. On the difference between OS 6.0 and OS 5.0 the main points seem to be the contacts list, which has been refreshe din 6.0 and the look of the media player. You are also able to set messages with different colours for easy identification e.g. you can set a specific colour for freinds and family. OS 6.0 is shipping with apps pre-installed for accessing both Twitter and YouTube, something many other paltforms are already doing. Make sure you check out the video to see the full run through.

Foxconn Ditching Payouts For Worker Deaths    [ 09-06-2010 12:12 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: News.163 via Gizmodo     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

You'll remember that Fozconn, the much troubled Chinese electronics manaufacturer, stated that it would be bumping up its employees salaries a second time to the tune of 70%. Well you may also remember that there were apparently conditions that went along with that increase and it looks like those conditions have become public knowledge at last. Basically Foxconn will will be increasing its workers' salaries, but at the expense of scrapping payouts for the families of deceased workers i.e. if you commit suicide your family gets nothing. Previously the case was that if an employee committed suicide their family would receive a compensation package from Foxconn that was worth 10 years salary, 110,000 yuan, which is approximately $16,100. That's a huge sum of money when you consider that the average Foxconn workr was only making about $130 a month. The payrise also depends upon workers achieving certain targets, but with the possibility of a hefty pay increase and a motivating reason behind the suicides taken away hopefully conditions will improve and morale will rise. Interestingly there has also been talk of moving some of the work away from the massive Shenzhen factory, possibly to Taiwan or Vietnam, it's only speculation, but perhaps the idea is to take some of the pressure off the Shenzhen factory?
