Samsung are apparently setting themselves the goal of increasing shipments next year by around 18% over 2010 levels. Why is this important? Because it means that Samsung are approaching Nokia in terms of the volume of units shipped.
Samsung are said to be looking at shifting some 330 million units in 2011, up from the 280 million they are expected to ship this year. Whether or not they will overtake Nokia Samsung might realise the more achievable goal of becoming the biggest Android supplier in the world, especially with its S series doing brisk business and the new Nexus S about to hit the shelves.
Analysts are a little more cautious though saying that an 18% increase is unrealistic and that a 7% increase is more likely. That would still see Samsung ship somewhere in the region of 300 million units globally.

The Android 2.3 SDK released today has thrown up a rather interesting surprise, which seems to confirm the existence of the much talked about PlayStation phone. The revelation takes the form of support coded into Gingerbread for various new input keys with tags that strongly suggest they are for the PlayStation phone.
The new input keys are labelled A, B, C, L1, L2, Mode, R1, R2, Select, Start, ThumbL, ThumbR, X, Y, and Z.
The exitence of the PlayStation phone is all but confirmed really with various pictures and videos having made appearances in recent weeks. All there is left is for Sony Ericsson to make it official and judging by the support present for the device here that may not be too far off. Indeed initial reports suggested that an announcement might take place before Christmas.

TechRadar are reporting that everyone's favourite Taiwanese manufacturer, HTC, are aiming to be market leaders in 3D enabled smartphones. Apparently sources within HTC are saying that the company is looking to get a commercial product product to market before the end of 2011.
HTC had previously demonstrated 3D display technology at MWC in Barcelona, but that was very much a demo, not anything that would be construed as an end product ready for market. HTC's latest R&D centre in the U.S. is said to be taking a very keen interest in both 3D display technologies and AMOLED displays with some e-ink thrown in for good measure.
Intersecting nicely with such reports is a job advertisment from HTC for an engineer familiar with 3D display and imaging technology.
Of course the big question is whether the public are even interested in 3D displays, after all it wouldn't be the first time the mobile industry assumed that consumers wanted a feature when they didn't. Video calls anyone ...?
