Video: Augmented Reality Brings WTC Back to New York    [ 13-10-2009 14:31 ]

Augmented Reality is one of the hottest new technologies, if not the hottest, for mobile phones. Mnay may still be unfamiliar with the concept, but basically it can be summed up by saying that it's a mixture of the real (physical) world and the virtual world of the internet. Augmented Reality (AR) apps take information from the net and mix it with elements of the real world to provide various services. So far there's aren't many apps and much of what does exist is at the prototype stage. Well one app in particular caught my eye today on Mobiwoo, it allows the user to scan an environment and shows what used to be there. In the example video below the app is sued to scan the area where the World Trade centre used to be and show what it was like when the buildings still stood. Check out the video, it's pretty cool stuff!

Sony Ericsson Handsets To Get Visual Voicemail    [ 13-10-2009 12:24 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: IntoMobile     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

One of the most useful features launched with the iPhone was visual voicemail. It's a system that allows the user to see exactly what voice messages have been left for them and to then select the one they want to listent o without having to listen to the preceeding messages as is the case with traditional voicemail systems. In essence it's random access voicemail. Annoyingly visual voicemail hasn't made its way to many other handsets, but that could soon be changing after the announcement that Comverse has teamed up with Sony Ericsson to offer just such a service on Sony Ericsson handsets. It's all very preliminary at the moment and as such there is no word on a timeline or even which handsets will feature visual voicemail. Presumably the first batch will be high-end handsets, but hopefully it's something that trickles down to all levels. Perhaps of more interest is whether or not existing handsets will see the technology, perhaps the likes of the X2.
