Giorgio Armani WinMo Phone Unveiled ... Looks Like A Glammed Up N97    [ 09-10-2009 19:59 ]

Samsung have teamed up with Italian fashion house, Giorgio Armani, to release a new Windows Mobile powered handset that bears more than a passing resemblance to the Nokia N97. Oh and it has no name! Yes that's right, apparently the handset really doesn't have a name, at least not at the moment anyway, but whether it will or won't is still anyone's guess. If you know what this thing is actually called let us know in the comments?

Anyway moving on, the handset does actually pack quite a punch in terms of features. Usually these designer tie-ins produce half-baked handsets that are neither very good looking or anywhere near useful to use. This handset actually bucks both trends. It sports a 5 MP camera, WinMo 6.5, a 3.5" AMOLED screen, 8 GB internal memory, GPS and a full QWERTY keyboard to name but a few. In terms of looks it probably won't be everyone's cup of tea of course, but to be fair it doesn't look all that bad. It actually cuts a bit of a dash with its bronze and black finish. Compare with some of the plasticy designer efforts we've seen in the past this does exude a certain amount of finesse. There's a couple of videos concerning the handset, note that Steve Ballmer himself gives it a nod in the second clip.

Dev Discovers Windows Marketplace DRM Easily Hacked    [ 09-10-2009 19:32 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Engadget     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Microsoft's Windows Marketplace has gotten off to something of a shaky start with the revelation that it's DRM protection isn't as secure as app developers may like. One dev found that the DRM protection, which is intended to prevent apps being shared across multiple handsets, could be broken after only five minutes or so of tinkering. How he did it was to enable the CAB file that downloads to the handset to be saved to a different folder thus enabling the CAB fill (and therefore the app) to be shared amongst different handsets. It's a pretty serious vulnerability for any apps that aren't free and we can only imagine Micosoft will be looking to shore up its defences asap!
