No iPhone Price War In UK Says Carphone Warehouse    [ 06-10-2009 17:17 ]

With O2's exclusivity at an end and the iPhone having become something of a free for all in the UK as Orange and Vodafone pick up the option many have been wondering whether an iPhone price war might develop. Sadly for customers the Carphone Warehouse doesn't seem to think so. CEO Andrew Hariss summed it up "I am not convinced there will be a price war. That is a game that only leads in one direction and that is all of them losing. This battle will be fought on other fronts". Which other fronts? Well there's actually quite a few as it happens.

  • O2 has the worst 3G coverage of any network in the UK and it's something customers have noticed. Both Orange (which has the best 3G coverage) and Vodafone could use that as leverage with customers unhappy with O2's service.
  • O2 has experienced frequent data outages, which again has been felt by customers and may push them towards the other networks if they are seen as being more reliable.
  • O2 has been widely criticised for its pricing policies, both in terms of the tariffs themselves and the tethering bolt-on. Whilst Orange and Vodafone might undercut O2's prices they might not, instead simply opting to give the customer more for the same amount of money.
  • O2 has been inflexible on its iPhone tariffs, with long-term customers having to give up loyalty deals to get one. Orange and Vodafone may choose a different approach and actively seek to embrace the iPhone as a retention tool alongside loyalty rewards.

Digg To Get Official On The iPhone    [ 06-10-2009 16:26 ]

Author: Ivanov Konstantin   Source: IntoMobile     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

One odd ommission from the Apple app store has been an official Digg app. There are plenty of unofficial apps of course, but they all have at least one flaw ... you can't actually digg a story. That's because Digg doesn't allow third party apps to do that so many have been looking for an official app. Considering that Digg founder Kevin Rose is a huge Apple fan himself, and owns an iPhone, one wonders why there hasn't been an official app. At any rate all that's about to change as Rose indicated in an interview at FOWA in London as an official Digg iPhone app is indeed imminent. There's no precise date on when it will make an appearance, but hopefully it's sooner rather than later.
