Video: Nokia Wants To Know How We'll Be Using Mobiles in 2-4 Years?    [ 01-10-2009 19:06 ]

Nokia are known for being kene on future gazing and they indulged their hobby in financing two Danish students to examine future mobile usage concepts. The two students, Kevin Cannon and Tobias Toft, came up with three areas of focus: 'Playfulness', 'Staying Connected' and 'People Centric'. Watching the videos the immediate impression is wtf? The concepts and videos are high on cutesy pop-artesque toy-like apps and services, but there isn't much substance or real insight to them. The remit for this project was to look 2-4 years into the future and imagine how today's geekerati might be using their mobiles. Granted that's not a long time away and one might not expect much to have changed, but let's remember the state of the mobile market four years ago in 2005 ... quite a bit has changed since then! The 'changes' shown in these videos amount to little more than a fairly small, and logical, extension of current smartphone usage. If Nokia enjoys cutesey-pie videos then by all means this was well worth the investment, otherwise it looks like a waste of money.
