Samsung announcces B2100 Xplorer    [ 20-03-2009 18:51 ]

Samsung has unveiled its latest ruggerized  handset - the B2100 Xplorer. As is to be expected by now, the Xplorer is resistant to many things - namely dust, shock, and high temperatures. As well as that, the Xplorer can withstand 30 minutes underwater - at a maximum of one meter.

The Xplorer will hit Europe sometime next month, and though no confirmed price is known, it's expected to sell for around the €100 mark. Features of the Samsung B2100 Xplorer include:

  • Connectivity: Quad-band GSM, EDGE
  • Display: 1.8", 120 x 160 pixels
  • Camera: 1.3 MP, flash, video recording
  • Memory: 7MB internal, expandable via MicroSD card slot
  • Extras: Bluetooth 2.1, with A2DP support
  • Dimensions: 113 x 49.5 x 17.2 mm
  • Weight: 103 grams

Samsung's first Android-powered handset coming in Q3 of this year    [ 20-03-2009 17:35 ]

Currently, there is only one Android-powered device on the market - that being the HTC G1, which is exclusive to T-Mobile. Several other companies, such as LG, and Motorola, have announced intentions to release Android-powered handsets. It's being that Samsung's first Android-powered device is to be available sometime from July to September of this year.

The device, pictured above, is said to bare resemblance to the HTC G1 successor, the Dream, which is exclusive to Vodafone. Two more Android-powered devices are expected to appear this year, with the same number from HTC.

Samsung launches Samsung Movies store    [ 20-03-2009 17:10 ]

Samsung has launched a movie-centric download store, exclusively for Samsung customers, currently for the UK and Germany. As of now, the store offers a total of 500 movies and TV shows, with 500 more to come by the end of the month. The content can be watched on selected Samsung handsets, with users having the option to buy or rent the movies and TV shows.

As it stands, the only supported handset is Samsung's Tocco Ultra, with more devices to be supported in the near future. The service is also to be available for other Samsung products, such as media players, notebooks, as well as Televisions. Prices for movies are from £2.49, for a one-day rental, or £4.99 to keep.
