Multi-Touch for Android Coming in 2.0?    [ 13-08-2009 20:37 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: IntoMobile     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Multi-touch has been one of the, if not the most, sought after feature in Android for a while now, but it looks like the Donut line won't be bringing it to the public anytime soon. However, Android users need not despair because the Eclair branch of code might see multi-touch included. Of course multi-touch isn't entirly new to the Android platform; third party devs have already showcased the feature and HTC included it in their recent HTC Hero. However, these attempts have been limited and it would take Google themselves to see the feature rolled out to all Android touchscreen devices. Current speculation has it that Motorola's upcoming 'Sholes' handset will be the first to feature Android 2.0 and thus multi-touch, but of course a 20 update could then be passed onto the Magic, Galaxy, etc.

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Engadget     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Those who have been following the story of a potential Dellsmartphone will remember that not all too long ago a spyshot was leaked purporting to show the rumoured handset. Well today we have not one, but two separate leaks showing possible Dell smartphones and they all match up. To add to the excitement one of the pictures even shows the handset powered on, which gives us a look at the UI being used for it, a customised version of Android. The Boy Genius Report has posted what they say are the specifications of the device:

  • Quad-band GSM/EDGE
  • 3.5" 640x360 screen
  • 3 MP camera with flash
  • 30fps video recording
  • Bluetooth
  • aGPS
  • microSD support

The handset is rumoured to be making an appearance on China Mobile, and hence they have had a hand in customising the UI. Take a look at the new pictures below:
