Google Android platform has been doing pretty well given that there are currently only three handsets available that actually use it. There are more in the pipeline of course, but Google has been working hard to try and attract users and as part of that has been looking to take the best bits of other platforms and incorporate it into Android. It's been trying to get the app numbers ejoyed by the iPhone; be the same practical platform that WinMo has been, and gain the reach and volume of Symbian. One area where Android is sorely lacking though is business functionality. Well that looks to be about to change according to Andy Rubin, Director of Mobile Platforms at Google. Rubin is saying that by the end of this year Android will incorporate all the necessary business functionality needed to entice business users away from rival platforms like Blackberry. Rubin did put his comment in context though when he said that the availability and support of such features would be down to the handset manufacturers. It will certainly be interesting to see whether Android can take on another layer, but probably the most likely outcome is that business orientated Android handsets will be kept apart from more general consumer handsets by the manufacturers.

Ovi Files, the rebradged Files on Ovi, now works on Macs. The service is basically a cloud storage system that allows the user to access their stored files from any computer, and of course any mobile, whereever they may be (as long as there is a data connection of course). It's not as if Mac users have been without options all this time though, having had access to services like Dropbox, Box.net and of course Apple's own MobileMe service. The main adavantages of these cloud based services is obviously that you don't have to carry around USB sticks or external drives and you can gain access to your data any time any place. Nokia haven't seemed terribly Mac friendly of late, the N97 in the UK comes bundled with software for the PC, but not for the Mac although Nokia are saying they are looking to rememdy this situation soon. This, at least, appaears a step in the right direction.
