As Nokia’s touchscreen-enabled line-up was picking up pace with the latest release of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone (read more about it in our exclusive preview here), it was about time hey introduced some new members to their software portfolio. The other day they rolled out S60 5th edition platform that can be installed on touchscreen handsets. As Nokia claims, the new edition of this OS sports a number of unique characteristics and allows the developers to create multimedia-ready devices with a wide array of features enabled in them. Naturally, the first phone to come preinstalled with S60 5th Edition is the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

The most newsworthy specs of the new OS include:

  • Bundled browser supporting Adobe Flash Lite 3
  • Finger- and stylus-based navigation
  • Bundled motion sensor
  • Support for widgets (mini-applications like the ones found in the Samsung M8800)
  • Updated video and image editors
  • Support for Open C++

You can read more about the new platform here.

Nokia Music appliction for PC finally sees release    [ 03-10-2008 22:42 ]

Author: Irina Turina     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

With Nokia Comes With Music campaign about to unfold, the Finnish phone maker has released the final version of Nokia Music application for PC – previously all enthusiasts could only get a taste of its beta version. In a nutshell, Nokia Music works in pretty much the same vein as Apple’s fabled iTunes – it allows accessing Nokia Music Store online, sorting tracks on your PC and moving them to a mobile device. As simple as that. All in all, Nokia are all set to take on Apple on its own turf, given what kind of service their new music phones will come with (a year of subscription will guarantee you unlimited downloads and limitless use of tracks, provided that you don’t move them to any other device). You can upload the final release of Nokia Music app for PC and enjoy all its benefits here.
