Sony Ericsson shows a new way to zoom in/on with mobile phones    [ 06-10-2008 12:15 ]

Sony Ericsson have recently filed a patent for a new method to zoom in/out on pictures with our mobile phones – while its primary focus are imaging-savvy handsets like the company’s latest and greatest C905 (although it doesn’t have this feature), it’s not unthinkable that they will actually find a way to implement it into stand-alone digital cameras. As the patent application reads, all you need to do to move the phone closer to the object in case you want to zoom in and, on the other hand, to zoom out you will need to step back a little. Apart from a bundled camera, this technology also requires built-in motion and proximity sensors in the phone. The only question remains is whether this gimmicky feature will actually jump off the paper and get into Sony Ericsson’s phones, since basically it doesn’t sound like a major breakthrough and some might still give their preference to the conventional way of zooming.

Samsung i7110's specs leak    [ 06-10-2008 09:46 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Unwiredview     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

We already have some articles on the upcoming Samsung i7110 smartphone in our news feed. In a word, it’s a Symbian S60-based device housed in a candybar-style casing, whose major trump is a so-called “virtual mouse pointer” – it allows the user to control a mouse pointer on the phone’s screen with the help of the navigation pad (much like the setup found in the Samsung i780 Windows Mobile smartphone). However it’s the first time we could get our hands on a detailed spec sheet of the phone. Reportedly, the i7110 will be launched at Symbian Smartphone Show that will take place on October 21-22 in London.

Spec sheet of the Samsung i7110:

  • 3G (HSDPA), GSM/EDGE connectivity
  • OS: Symbian 9.3 S60 (Feature Pack 2?)
  • QVGA OLED-display capable of up to 262K colors
  • 5 Mpix camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • FM-radio with RDS functionality
  • GPS-receiver
  • 80 Mb of internal memory
  • microSDHC memory card slot
  • Dimensions – 118x52x13 mm
