New handset designs from Nokia    [ 22-05-2008 18:24 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Unwiredview     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Nokia has leaked a number of new handset designs, and a new User Interface. The first handset has a swivelling form-factor, ala the 7370...or that's what you get when you open it with your left hand.

However, open it with your right hand, and the phone reveals a touchscreen, in place of the phone's keypad, thanks to a hinge, which, when the phone is open, reveals a normal keypad, or a touchscreen, depending on what way the phone is opened.

Next, Nokia's version of a touch interface. The d-pad – actually a scroolbar, is curved, and boasts touch sensitivity. It is more minimalistic than a circular scrollbar, and looks to be easier to use.

Rounding out this array of concepts is a form-factor tailored to media playback. Watching a film on your phone can be quite tedious, and, if you lay the phone on a flat surface, you can only see the screen properly from lowering your neck. The above image speaks for itself. So, some interesting  here, hopefully some become a reality quite soon

New mobile phones - longer than ever    [ 22-05-2008 17:24 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Unwiredview     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Thin phones are all the rage these days, particularly with females – will long phones take over next though? They will if designer Tamer Koseli has his way. He has created a concept, called Need, of what he believes is the longest phone in the world, coming equipped with two displays (OLED for time, battery and service indicators and a long touchscreen display for everything else) and no other bells and whistles (that is, no camera or extra functionality of any sorts other than calls)

Will it catch on? who knows. If it becomes a reality, we reckon you'll have a job fitting it in your pocket. Still, it's something different though.

Two low-end range handsets from Phillips    [ 22-05-2008 15:44 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: intomobile     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Phillips has announced two new handsets for Asia, and Europe – the low-end 198 and 199. Both models sport a mini USB port – for both charging, and data transfer. The lower index model – the 198 comes equipped with an FM radio. As you'd expect for low-end handsets – both are relatively small – measuring 99x42x13.5 mm and weighting 65 grams.

Other than that, they are pretty standard budget units with no bells and whistles whatsoever. They will be available in the coming months, for approximately $62 a piece.

Cristian Dior phone to be announced soon    [ 22-05-2008 14:11 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Unwiredview     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

A Cristian Dior phone is to be announced soon – made by a French designer phone specialist Modelabs, who have previously made the Hummer HT1 mobile phone. Depending on if you want real diamonds, or just crystals, it will set you back in the region of $3500-5000.

It will sport GSM and 3G connectivity, a camera, and touchscreen. Also, expect Cristian Dior-themed content too – such as pictures, ringtones etc. As a bonus, you will also get a My Dior – claimed to be a seperate phone. It's purpose is to prevent women from fiddeling in their handbags to find their phone – it clips to the outside of a bag, for convinience sake, used to make, and receive calls.

Handset manufacturer E-Ten is set to launch the DX900 in Taipei, at the Computex tradeshow, which is set to take place between June 3rd and June 7th. Sure, it could be argued that the DX900 looks like your standard E-Ten smartphone, but, as the saying goes, don't judge a book by its cover. Because, in terms of technical specifications, the DX9000 is unlike any other E-Ten before it.

Let us run down the brief specs of the DX900:

  • Connectivity: Quad-band GSM, and tri-band UMTS, and HSDPA
  • Operating System: Windows Mobile 6.1
