Google names finalists of its Developer Challenge    [ 21-05-2008 01:16 ]

Author: Klimov Oleg   Source: phandroid     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

You may remember that back in February, we posted about Google's $10 million Android developer challenge being delayed. Today, the company has revealed the finalists of the Round 1 of the competition (the second round of the challenge will see 10 winners who will take home 275,000 USD and 10 teams that will go away 100,000 USD richer) Quite a number of the finalist's applications focused on Location-Based Services, which is an area that Google was fond of, at the beginning of the developer challenge. The fifty finalists (picked from the field of over 1700 applications) will be getting $25,000 for their efforts. Here you can find a detailed list of the applications which made it through.

Let us mention what we think are four stand-out applications: Writing Pad – let's you do join-up handwriting, Phonebook 2.0 – may have a connection to Web 2.0 networking sites, LReady Emergency Manager – may give easy access to emergency services, Multiple Facets Instant Messenger – Instant Messaging App with some neat extras. 1
