New low-end handset from Nokia announced    [ 13-06-2008 16:31 ]

Nokia has announced a low-end monoblock handset – the 1508, offering just the essential features that make the device a phone. There really isn't much to it, specs-wise – no camera, or anything like that. The best you're going to get here is an FM radio, and a voice recorder application, which can record for up to three minutes at a time. Pricing isn't known yet, but it's unlikely to break your wallet. Expect to see it in stores by the third quarter.

Asus EEE shipments pass expectations, in spite of processor shortage    [ 13-06-2008 10:51 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: digitimes     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

ASUS, maker of the popular EEE PC sub-notebook, hope that their notebook sales will increase 50% on the previous year, meaning that shipments of the EEE PC look set to go over the five million mark, despite setbacks, such as shortages of Intel's Atom processor. Asus looks to sip around 6.6 million notebooks – this is not including the EEE PC, as it is a sub-notebook. This would equate to an increase of 2..3 million notebooks, up from 4.3 million on the previous year. Asus think that they may ship around five million EEE PCs, and they estimate that there will be around ten million sub-notebooks, meaning they will have around half of that market. Shortages appear to be minimal – the fire at an LG battery plant earlier in the year, where battery's for the EEE are produced, and the lack of Intel processors won't seem to hamper production, with Asus saying things should be back to normal by around October time.
