Touchscreen handsets to reach 230 million in four years    [ 28-07-2008 21:21 ]

A report, composed by IMS Research suggests that the number of touchscreen handsets will see an increase of approximately two hundred million, giving a total of 230 million. Thirty million touchscreens were sold last year, so, if that number is sold each year, by 2012, that will total 180 million, but, then again, more than that could be sold by year – since LG launched their first touchscreen handset just over a year and a month ago, they have sold seven million touchscreen handsets alone. Samsung's Instinct handset is currently US network operator Sprint's most sold EV-DO handset, in their history – so the touchscreen market is rapidly rowing, no doubt about that. With Nokia launching their touchscreen Tube handset sometime this, or early next year, Samsung pumping out more touchscreen handsets by the hour, and HTC utilising their intuitive TOUCHFLO 3D in their touchscreen handsets, the number quoted above could certainly become a reality by 2012.
