850 Mhz GSM connectivity available on unofficial HTC Diamond ROM    [ 21-07-2008 17:48 ]

Author: Klimov Oleg   Source: GSMArena     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

An unofficial ROM has been released (from this point on, proceed at your own risk!) for HTC's Diamond, and it supports the 850 Mhz GSM band. Though it's unofficial, those in the Americas can purchase a European version of the Diamond, and use it on the 850 Mhz band, which is the primary band used throughout the US, and the Americas. The ROM effectively makes the Diamond a Quad-band enabled handset, meaning it can be used virtually anywhere in the World. Of course, quite a lot of people would rather wait for the North American version, as using an unofficial ROM invalidates your warranty. Not only does the ROM make the Diamond a Quad-band devices usable in the Americas, but, it's also said to improve signal strength, and battery life too.

First Sony Ericsson phone with 3.5mm headphone jack?    [ 21-07-2008 14:41 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Unwiredview     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

A 3.5mm headphone jack seems to be one of the most request features in a Sony Ericsson handset these days, and, ironically, it won't first appear on a Walkman handset, which, many people say it should have appeared n a Walkman handset from the beginning. It seems the Sony Ericsson J132, a low-end handset, with a 128 x 160 pixel CSTN screen, a paltry 4MB memory, with no memory card slot, or camera present, though you do get an RDS FM Radio. It seems odd that a 3.5mm jack on a Sony Ericsson handset won't be seen on a Walkman handset,, or even a mid/high-end non-Walkman handset.

Just to jog your memory, the first handset to sport a 3.5mm jack, was Nokia's N91, released over two years ago – April of 2006 to be precise. Perhaps it'll be announced on the 22nd, along with the other rumoured handsets that we reported on yesterday
