Beta version of Opera Mobile 9.5 is now available [ 17-07-2008 23:26 ]

On July 8th, we reported that the Beta version of Opera Mobile 9.5 would only see a release on Windows Mobile smartphone handsets. That has held true, as, today, it has been released, for, you guessed it – Windows Mobile-based smartphones. It is still unknown how far off release the beta version for Symbian-based handsets, though it shouldn't be too far off. Judging by the features – coupled with a new, mainly touch-driven UI, clever zoom options, and the ability to save pages, and images, this looks to be the closest Desktop browsing experience Windows Mobile users can get. This isn't Samsung's first known stab at a phone with a touchscreen two Sim Card slots – that was the P720, which, was ultimately scrapped. Now the D980, armed with the TouchWiz UI, and obviously a touchscreen, hopes to fiind a place in the ever growing mobile phone market. At its core, it's essentially an F480, armed with two Sim Card slots, and nothing more. No news on pricing or availability as of yet.

The tech specs are as follows:

Connectivity: GSM Triband (900/1800/1900MHz), GPRS/EDGE connectivity
Display: 2.6" 240×320px QVGA 262K color display
Camera: 5 megapixels, with autofocus and flash
Memory: MicroSD memory card slot
Extras: Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0 connectivity, Dual SIM GSM card slots

Sony Ericsson has launched a new Walkman site – albeit a very sparse one. It's for the announcement of several new handsets come July 22nd. The handsets rumoured to be announced are the W902, W595, W302, and the W707, all of which we've covered in the recent days. On the site, you'll find a countdown timer, counting down the days until July 22nd. It's unlikely anything will appear on the site before then. Of course, there's the possibility that more handsets will be announced, alongside the aforementioned rumoured ones.

Nokia outs Q2 2008 results – ships 122 million handsets [ 17-07-2008 18:44 ]

Nokia has released its Q2 results for last this, and, in total, they shipped 122 million handsets, representing 21% year on year growth and a 6% sequential increase– ten million handsets of which were from the multimedia-focused N-Series line, and around two million of the business-focused E-Series line. The amount of smartphone handsets shipped in the second quarter of this year increased by 1.4 million – 15.3 million against 13.9 million on last years second quarter.
