Motorola's handset division is changing, this news comes from an internal memo today. The feature and multimedia handset divisions, have now merged into one unit. The two teams will now work alongside their counterparts, at both the hardware, and design divisions. Motorola hopes this will increase the speed at which new handsets are released. What's more, Motorola announced that Rob Shaddock is now the Head of Consumer Products, Bruce Brda is now Head of Worldwide Sales and Operations, and, finally, Steve Lalla is now in charge of the division focusing on lower specification handsets.

The iPhone, and, to some extent, the iPod, are pretty decent video players. But, of course, there is one limitation – screen size. This may be about to change for iPod and iPhone users, if Apple's patent has anything to say about it. Sure, head mounted displays is nothing out of the ordinary, but, going by Apple's patent, it's not actually all that bulky.
Most of the devices size can be attributed to the light source, and the components that are necessary to generate, as well as display video imagery. Apple like to shove a lot of technology into small packages, and there is no exception here. Apple reckon that all of the necessary components should be put into a small, battery-operated box, which can then be clipped on to the users belt. Then, video is transmitted to the headset, via a laser, and an optical cable. Wedge optics will then display the video in front of the users eyes.

A new firmware has hit Nokia's online software updater, for the N95 8GB, firmware v20.0.016. This new firmware, thanks to the N95's built-in accelerometer, offers automatic screen rotation, which was previously available through user-created software.
But, now that it is officially supported out-of-the-box, by the N95 8GB is nice nonetheless. The new firmware also offers improved updates to the in-built browser and the Wi-Fi functionality.

So, today, it comes as no surprise that Nokia has said that their “Green Phone” is still not going to see the light of day for a few years at least. Let's face it: the amount of readily available recycled materials is not so great – that is probably the main factor contributing to the phone's delay, as expected. However, Nokia is currently doing pretty well with recycled materials – with in the region of 40-60% of the metal parts in their phones being recycled material. Let us not forget their eco-friendly 3110 Evolve. Whilst they are off to a slow start, no doubt, Nokia's commitment is certainly there.

LG Electronics posted their Q1 earnings – ending on March 31st. Unfortunately for LG, sales in the first quarter fell by 7%, to $4,036 million USD, which is down from $4,372 million USD, in the fourth quarter of last year. However, this increased by almost 50% (48% to be precise), compared to $2,753 million USD, in the very first quarter of 2007. Comparing to last year's earnings, the huge increase can be attributed to the sales of its popular mobile phones (such as the Viewty, and Venus), a good performance in Europe, amongst other things. Some more good news for LG – they reported that they sold 24.4 million handsets in this year's first quarter – a new record for the company. Sales in the first quarter rose by 14.8% for the company. What's more, LG hopes to sell 100 million handsets this year – which would give them a 25% increase over 2007's shipments.
