Nokia – few years to “recycling” cellphones    [ 14-04-2008 09:51 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Reuters     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

It will take few years to launch mass production of cellphones made of recycled materials, said a Nokia’s spokesman. Nokia expects to promote the recycling technology in cellphones. Remember that the company introduced the Remade concept phone at 3GSM Congress in February 08, it is made of recycled materials including aluminum cans.

About 40-60% of metal parts in Nokia’s current phones consist of recycled materials, reported Markus Terho, a director at Nokia’s environmental affairs unit. He also added that environmentally friendly production ways encourage financial results. For example, by producing smaller packages in early 2006, the company saved €100 million on transport and material cost by the end of 2007.
