Dell works on a low-end mini-notebook?    [ 09-04-2008 19:01 ]

Dell has placed an order for low-end notebooks with Compal Electronics, reported a source at the Taiwanese company. The company expects to launch 8.9” mini-notebooks this June, the price being set at $499 or lower. Remember that we already have similar solutions on the market, for example, ASUS (EeePC), Intel (Classmate PC) and HP (HP 2133 Mini-Note). Being compact and inexpensive they enjoy popularity among students and business users. Dell seems to keep up with its competitors and release its own mini-notebook.

For the start Compal Electronics plans to ship 200-300 thousand low-end notebooks on the monthly basis to reach 1-2 million units over 2008.

It's no secret that Nokia have been working on an iPhone competitor, and, now, thanks to a Nokia executive, the device finally has a name. Tom Libretto, vice president of Forum Nokia, revealed the device is code-named, simply - “Tube”, at a developer event in California, USA. Unlike the iPhone, the Tube will offer support for Java, he mentioned. An announcement for this device, let alone a concrete release date, is currently unknown.

First HSUPA handset by Samsung    [ 09-04-2008 09:28 ]

Author: Irina Turina     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Samsung are renowned for making attractive sliders, be they thin or thick. Now, they've done it again, with the M470, their first mobile phone to feature HSUPA connectivity. HSUPA allows up to 5.8 Mbps uplink speed.

But, the M470 is not simply a one-trick pony. It runs on the latest Windows mobile OS, features Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity to boot, complementing HSUPA. The M470 also sports a 2 megapixel camera. It should retail for around $600-$700 USD. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that this attractive handset will see the light of day outside Southern Korea.
