Two new Motorola handsets announced    [ 01-04-2008 21:45 ]

Author: Irina Turina     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Today, Motorola has announced – the M900 and the Moto Z9. The M990 isn’t much of a looker, as you’ll see below, and its specification isn’t too impressive either. The usual suspects are there: it’s a quad-band handset, Bluetooth support, and a 2.8” screen, and interactive voice activation.

The M990 also has a MicroSD card slot, but, unfortunately, storage is limited to 2GB.

Next up is the Z9, your average Motorola slider, available exclusively on US operator AT&T. Specifications are as follows: 2 megapixel camera, quand-band support, A2DP Bluetooth, HSDPA, and built-in GPS. The Z9 also has a MicroSD card slot, supporting up to 8GB.

Windows Mobile 6.1 launched by Microsoft    [ 01-04-2008 20:50 ]

Author: Klimov Oleg     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Today, Microsoft announced the update to its Windows Mobile 6.0 Operating System, in the form of 6.1, which we gave a quick run-through here. The 6.1 update addresses usability issues present in its predecessor, version 6.0, as well as bringing a major needed update to the pocket IE browser, which has remained the same since Windows Mobile 5.0.

Version 6.1’s main focus, as mentioned above, is on usability to the end-user. Microsoft claims that checking missed calls, and received text messages will now be much easer than before. Also, users will finally have the option to things to more than one message, such as to more and delete more than one at a time.

The pocket IE browser, which is based upon Internet Explorer 6 (released way back in 2001), will now support Adobe Flash, Microsoft’s Flash alternative – Silverlight, and the H.264 video codec as standard. It is not clear if the new version of pocket IE will ship as standard with 6.1, or be available as an update further down the road.
