Screenshots of HTC Manila tactile interface    [ 31-03-2008 23:13 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Boy Genius Report     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The Boy Genius Report has posted a pile of screenshots depicting Manila new tactile interface. The pictures are made with a VGA-communicator, probably with HTC Advantage X7510 (not yet released). The company will install Manila to new HTC communicators powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. In technical aspects Manila doesn’t present TouchFLO 2.0 – the latter being a slight update of the original version with improved scrolling capabilities and so on. Like TouchFLO, Manila is optimized to finger control without stylus assistance.

Nokia N96 with xenon flash?    [ 31-03-2008 21:27 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Intomobile     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Reportedly, the new Nokia N96 smartphone will come with a xenon flash instead of the announced double LED. That is the reason why we don’t see a device announced at the Mobile World Congress 2008 on the market, says the source. It was a last minute’s decision to replace the flash to the xenon type. I’d remind you that Nokia N96 is equipped with a high-quality 5-megapixel camera featuring Carl Zeiss lens and VGA 30 fps video capture. The company claimed that the double LED flash can be active even at video shooting. And now we learn that there will be another flash. The source has even provided the picture of a Nokia N96 with the xenon flash.

Mobile phone ban in Cuba lifted    [ 31-03-2008 20:48 ]

Author: Serge Novikov     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The President of Cuba, Raúl Castro, has lifted the mobile phone ban in the country. Up until now, only non-native Cubans, or government officials and employees were allowed to possess a mobile phone, but, as of now, this has all changed. Anyone in Cuba can now own a prepaid contract mobile phone.

However, they will come at a steep price. Contracts must be paid for in Cuban convertible pesos, a second Cuban currency, aimed at tourists. It is worth 24 times that of a normal Cuban peso. The public will be informed in the coming days about the new prepaid contracts.

LG Viewty’s younger Brother gets FCC approval    [ 31-03-2008 19:37 ]

Author: Klimov Oleg     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The FCC has approved of LG’s new KE990 – a 2.5G triband Viewty. With 3G functionality being removed (including the front-facing camera, obviously), LG has managed to squeeze a lens cover on the back of the camera.

This will be a welcome edition for the owners of the 3G-enabled KU990 – a lens cover was quite possibly, along with no MicroSDHC support, arguably the most missed feature in the Viewty. Cosmetically, everything on the KE990 is the same as on the KU990, apart from the added camera lens cover, and 3G support removed.
