New kid locator for worried parents    [ 21-03-2007 14:30 ]

Author: Klimov Oleg   Source: Mobile Business Magazine     Translation by: Sidneylopsides    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

What is claimed to be the world’s first GPS based child safety device is now available in the UK. i-Kids features a one-touch emergency button and GPS functionality to help relieve parents’ anxieties without limiting their child’s independence.

The panic button automatically speed-dials four pre-programmed numbers in sequence until the child’s alert is answered; if it isn’t, the call is diverted to the i-Kids service desk where a trained operator can offer assistance.

Children can receive text messages and calls from parents on their i-Kids device, but they cannot make calls or send texts.

Info from the website at www.mobiles2go.com/uk. It will be priced at £99.99, plus a monthly tariff of £15.75 on an 18 month contract.

HTW S116 – a solar cellphone    [ 21-03-2007 13:33 ]

Author: Klimov Oleg   Source: unwiredview.com     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The idea of solar energy powering various devices is no longer brand new. Though there are just few real examples of it for the reason of low efficiency factor and bulky dimensions of this battery type.

However HTW doesn’t share that point of view, it has introduced the S116, a cellphone  rechargeable by solar power. 40 minutes under the direct sunlight ensure 20-25 minutes of talk time. Besides, some artificial light source will do in case of an emergency call.

Measuring 47.6x80x0.8 mm the phone is equipped with a QVGA screen, an expansion slot and a 1.3-megapixel camera. The device hasn't been introduced by the manufacturer yet, however HTW Electronics is planning on launching sales in China next month.

Author: Klimov Oleg   Source: i4u.com     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The portfolio of Acer contains the series of high-end Ferrari-branded notebooks and LCD monitors Usually these top devices packed in a Black-Red shell with the Ferrari logo are designed for Formula 1 fans, who are ready to spend any sum of money on such attractive toys.

At the CeBIT 2007 the company reported its plans to introduce a GPS-navigator under the Ferrari brand. It’s likely to be a re-designed edition of the C500 series in the Red shell. I’d like note, Acer won’t be a pioneer with a compact device finished in Ferrari brand colors in its portfolio. Back in 2005 Sharp introduced a respective cellphone.
