Elevation Partners to acquire a 25% in Palm    [ 04-06-2007 17:49 ]

Palm has officially confirmed the deal with  Elevation Partners. According to the terms of agreement, Elevation will invest 325 mln. dollars to acquire a 25% share in Palm. In its turn, Palm will pay the current stakeholders about 940 mln. dollars in sum, or 9 dollars per share. Also, as it follows from the company's official press-release, Jon Rubinstein, the head of iPod division of Apple will join Palm's board of directors. More shifts in the board are on the way as well. As Palm claim, the transaction is expected to complete by Q3 of 2007.

Nokia has rolled out Mail For Exchange version 1.6 - this application is in fact a mail client for Nokia E-series devices. Mail For Exchange makes for gratifying experience of handling emails (including attachments), new message alerts, calendar and contacts, and also ensures synchronization of Inbox folder, calendar and contacts with Microsoft Exchange server via ActiveSync.

The version 1.6 adds support for Nokia E90 along with a couple of brand-new features and some patchwork for calendar, contacts and attachments. Nokia Mail for Exchange can be downloaded here.

The rumors about Sony prepairing a  convergent device, retaining merits of a mobile phone and PSP have been going about for a while, and since Sony Ericsson has been doing fine lately, there is no doubt that the company have something like this in mind.

As it was revealed some time ago, Sony Ericsson acquired exclusive rights for a device that bears much resemblance to the much-buzzed PSP Phone. The sketch above tells us about a rotating screen tailored to both two- and one-hand usability. This way, the device can act as a cellular phone and a gaming console at the same time, and all we have to do is wait for the debut of this idea's more real form than a pair of images.

Xchange magazine today announced the choice of WiMAX World Eurоpe 2007 committee - Motorola grabbed its prize for Motorola CPEi 200/300 series WiMAX desktop unit in the Devices Category. WiMAX World Europe award is given for the most substantial achievements in development and implementation of WiMAX solutions. This year saw nominees and sponsors  of WiMAX World Europe arrive in Vienna (May, 29-31), while the winners were picked by a competent committee comprising known WiMAX experts.

The Motorola CPEi 200/300 series desktop Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) offers a WiMAX solution that delivers fast, reliable, high-speedwireless Internet connectivity. Customers benefit from easy installation with plug- and-play functionality and the CPE employs multiple antenna technology, which delivers increased range, and higher throughput, when compared to products with single antenna solutions. In addition, the CPEi300 series offers customers the ability to make Voice over IP (VoIP) calls enabling the CPE to be used for both data and voice connectivity, hence providing a new revenue stream.
