Author: Klimov Oleg     Translation by: Oleg Kononosov    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

LG Electronics (LG) today announced that as of May, 6, the globe-wide sales volume of the Shine have stepped over the 1,5 mln mark. This is another big statement made after the wild success of the Chocolate, the Blac Label's first handset.

LG Chocolate, the first phone coming from the Black Label series, was also the highlight of the month last April - in a bit less than a year since the release date, its accumulated sales had exceeded 10 mln units. At that the follow-up model in the line, LG Shine, is, to say the least, equally big success, and its sales rating are currently  on the rise.

"LG will continue to strive to create new values for consumers and I  believe the way to the new values involves interactive marketing, cutting edge technology and innovative design," says Dr. Skott Ahn,  President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.

Linux to outrun Symbian on the smartphone OS market?    [ 31-05-2007 16:16 ]

Author: Irina Turina     Translation by: Oleg Kononosov    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

According to Berg Insight's market forecast, after 2012, the number of smartphones running on Linux might outrun that of Symbian smartphones. The experts claim that in 2012 will still be the market's best with a 44% share, whereas Linux will have 41% and Windows Mobile - 6%.

Its noteworthy that the future Windows Mobile in Berg Insight's vision are pretty grim, compared to the data presented in reports of other companies. For example, as IDC puts it, in 2010 this operating system will occupy a big 32,3% share of the market for "convergent mobile devices" (maybe this term includes not only smartphones, but communicators as well). In its turn The Diffusion Group (TDG) more than a year ago came up with a forecast that by 2010 the market of smartphone OS will have looked as follows: Windows Mobile - 29%, Linux - 26%, Symbian - 22%.
