2 new portable navigation systems Sanyo “Easy Street” debuted in the US    [ 18-07-2007 19:06 ]

SANYO announced today the availability of a pair of its advanced portable navigation systems of the Easy Street series on the US market. The NVM-4070 and NvM-4050 are equipped with a large and bright 4” widescreen (16:9) LCD with touch control. In addition both systems have text to speech function, step-by-step navigation with voice tips. Preinstalled maps contain complete data on the US, including Alaska, Hawaii and also Canada and Puerto Rico. There are over 1.8 million points on the maps interesting for drivers and tourists, such as destination of airports, hotels, restaurants and entertainment place on the travel route.

The common technical specs for SANYO Easy Street NVM-4070 and NVM-4050:

  • Display – touch-sensitive 4” widescreen (16:9) with glare coating
  • Bluetooth support, navigators can be used as wireless speakerphone and transfer data to a mobile phone, including contacts and SMS
  • Easy interface
  • Voice guide
  • Built-in GPS-antenna
  • MP3 / WMA playback from internal memory or SD cards
  • Stereo jack (3.5 mm)
  • SD slot

Besides SANYO Easy Street NVM-4070 features:

  • Traffic Message Channel (a specified implementation of RDS system transmitting info in FM range to communicate weather and traffic conditions)
  • Auto route adjustment
  • Photo (JPEG) and video (MPEG-4) viewer
  • Built-in FM-tuner for wireless playback of music tracks on the car audio system

Currently SANYO Easy Street NVM-4070 and NVM-4050 arte available at $499.99 and $399.99 respectively.

Official announcement of RIM BlackBerry 8820, company’s first Wi-Fi-enabled communicator    [ 18-07-2007 11:12 ]

Research In Motion (RIM) has officially announced its first communicator equipped with a Wi-Fi wireless module – BlackBerry 8820. We’ve mentioned it in our news block – the device has been recently certified by the FCC. This product is packed in the traditional form-factor for such models: it has a QWERTY-keyboard and a 320x240 pixels display. The manufacturer positions it as the business product.

The BlackBerry 8820 is a dual-mode device working in GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks and supporting Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g) and UMA technology (Unlicensed Mobile Access). In addition there are an integrated GPS-receiver, a media player, an expansion slot for microSD cards and Bluetooth 2.0 interface (A2DP/AVRCP).

According to RIM, the BlackBerry 8820 communicator will come to stores very soon. It will be available from AT&T operator in the end of summer.

Infineon Technology AG, a largest maker of communication components, has reported that Seiko Instruments chose a single crystal HF transceiver SMARTi 3G by Infineon for its UMTS/HSDPA data cards. The first SMARTi 3G card will be C01SI designed for Japan’s operator SoftBank. It will provide the users of this card, notebooks or PDA with up to 3.6 Mbps speeds in HSDPA networks.

The analog interface of SMARTi 3G ensures compatibility with the most base band 3G processors and has HSDPA 8 support, which can transfer data at up to 7.2 Mbps downlink channel.

The French company Sagem has unveiled a successor to the GSM/UMTS phone my900c – this is the my901C clamshell supporting EDGE standard.

The new phone features enhanced multimedia functionality – a media player, a miniSD slot, a 2-megapixel photo/video camera, a 240x320 pixels LCD and Bluetooth interface (with stereo sound support).
