Samsung SCH-W559: a touchscreen display with VibeTonz    [ 19-01-2007 17:26 ]

Samsung has developed a mobile phone SCH-W559. It is designed for the Chinese market, and like many such models it is equipped with a touchscreen display. The phone is peculiar for VibeTonz technology, which enables tactile feedback with the display, similar to pressing the keys. According to Immersion, the developer of VibeTonz, this is the world first phone of the kind. The SCH-W559 will be distributed via the Chinese operator China Unicom.

Its display has a QVGA resolution and supports 262K colors. In fact, it replaces the traditional keyboard. The keys displayed on the screen leave the impression of pressing the keys of the mechanical keyboard.

In addition it can work in both CDMA and GSM networks. The device is equipped with a 1.3-megapixel camera, it can play music and video and supports Bluetooth interface.

In the Internet you can find some new live photos of an upcoming Nokia E65 smartphone. I’d remind you that Nokia E65 is a new smartphone of Nokia’s business series, which is not yet officially announced. This is the first slider in the series, besides it has a camera.

The photos have been posted by Terminal.hu. It lists the specs partly coincident with earlier rumors: 14 mm slim, 2-megapixel camera, 352x416 display (not 320x240). Besides the source reports about 70 MB of internal memory, a microSD slot, Wi-Fi networking plus GSM/GPRS/EDGE and WCDMA, Bluetooth and IrDA interfaces. The new smartphone is said to be powered by S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1.

Up Date. It turned to be the photo not of the smartphone, but its proto, which is offered at eBay. You can buy for just $33.99.

Inventec Iris – a Windows communicator with the sliding QWERTY-keyboard and barcode scanner    [ 19-01-2007 10:48 ]

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has approved an unusual communicator Inventec Iris by the Taiwanese company Inventec Corporation. The communicator is peculiar for a laser barcode scanner (or QR code, depending on the model) in addition to traditional QWERTY-keyboard, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless technologies and GSM networking.

According the documentation on the FCC site, the communicator is likely to come out under OPTICON trademark. The later is known for its products with barcode scanners.

ASUSTeK Computer has announced the release of its new handheld computer A696, which was exhibited at CES 2007. At the same time there has been introduced its version – the A686. The models differ in CPU and memory size.

 

The PDAs are equipped with GPS-modules for navigation functionality. The antenna isn’t flipping, but internal. The devices attract attention with their slimness – 15.7 mm. The shell is made of stainless steel. Speakers are on the front panel.

Other specs are quite common for handhelds. The display features a 3.5” diagonal and QVGA (240x320 pixel) resolution. The GPS module is based on SiRF Star III chipset. As for wireless opportunities, there is the support of Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) and Bluetooth 2.0 EDR. The devices are powered by Windows Mobile 5.0.
