Amoi V870: a GPS-enabled phone for CDMA2000 1x EVDO and GSM networks    [ 26-04-2007 16:51 ]

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has approved a cell phone by the Chinese company Amoi Electronics – Amoi V870. This is a clamshell phone with the RAZR-style keyboard, according to the photos. The device is peculiar for dual band support – CDMA and GSM. Besides given the specs list, Amoi V870 is equipped with a sGPS module.

Trimle unveiled a new GPS-enabled PDA – the Juno ST handheld. The Juno ST is ideal for field data collection. Being low-priced it is affordable for companies that are managing large deployments and tight budgets. Reportedly, the device provides 2 to 5 meter GPS positioning, the GPS-receiver is sensitive enough to work in hostile environments. An external antenna can be added for the car use.

Research In Motion (RIM) and Verizon Wireless operator have announced BlackBerry 8830 World Edition communicator. The release will take place in May. Working in GSM/GPRS 900/1800 MHZ and CDMA2000 1X Ev-Do 900/1800 MHz networks BlackBerry 8830 World Edition features a built-in QWERTY-keyboard, 114x66x14 mm and 132 g.

Verizon Wireless reported the launch of a new service Global BlackBerry set for May 14. It offers an opportunity to use a single phone number for local and international calls in Europe, Asia, Latin America, Middle East, North America, partially in Africa and Australia. The service ensures voice calls in over 150 countries worldwide and e-mail in 60 countries.

BlackBerry 8830 World Edition will be available from Verizon Wireless for $299.99 on a 2-years service plan after a $100 rebate.

Nokia has reported it started shipments of its multimedia smartphone Nokia N76 to key European, Asian and Middle Eastern markets. I’d remind you the device debuted this January.
