Sony Electronics has announced in Japan a new version of its ultra compact PC Vaio UX. Earlier the company introduced a version with 512 MB RAM and 16 GB flash ROM instead of HDD. The HDD versions were also released. Now the company is offering a HDD-less version complying with modern requirements – 1 GB RAM and 32 GB flash ROM.

The Vaio UX is a small size mobile PC with a 4.5” sliding LCD opening a QWERTY-keyboard. It is powered by Microsoft Windows XP (Professional or Home Edition). The device weighs 492 g.

The recommended price for the model featuring Intel Core Solo U1400, 1 GB RAM and 32 GB flash ROM, Windows XP Professional is 332 thousand Yen, i.e. about $2850. Unlike UMPC positioned as low-price devices the VAIO UX series has never boasted of a low price. The sales of the new version are expected in October.
