Helio Hybrid: a dual-mode service for notebooks    [ 05-10-2006 09:30 ]

Author: Verà Kozlova     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The American virtual operator Helio has announced a new service Helio Hybrid. It is based on the popular idea of dual-mode networking (cell and Wi-Fi) and easy switch between them. However many operators has launched such services for cellphones, but Helio has started from notebooks.

The Helio Hybrid pack contains a PCMCIA-card supporting EV-DO, Hybrid Connector software and tariff package (roaming between 3G and Wi-Fi). Naturally the users will need a notebook with integrated Wi-Fi. In result the user will get a notice on a more productive connection and switch to it.

It’s possible to work with free Wi-Fi and Boingo Wireless access points (over 55 thousand units worldwide). The Helio Hybrid card and Hybrid Connector will be supplied for free in case of a 2-years service contract ($85 per month including access to EV-DO and Boingo access points).
