Solo M1: another Ultra Mobile PC    [ 27-03-2006 18:05 ]

The South Korean computer maker Daewoo Lucoms, earlier Deawoo Electronics, has announced its UMPC model supporting WiBro and DMB – the Solo M1. The company plans to launch the Solo M1 into sale in May 2006.


Weighing 779 g with the battery the device features PDA mobility and notebook functionality. The model comes with a 7” touchscreen LCD, a 1.3-megapixel CMOS camera, 512 MB DDR2, HDD capacious of 30 to 60 GB (depending on the package), an expansion slot for SD-cards, a web-camera and the support of WLAN and Bluetooth connection. Its Intel 900 MHz processor will save power consumption while time of use will be increased. The battery lasts for 2.5 hours.

Thales Navigation is about to release a new compact car GPS-navigator Magellan RoadMate 860T. In specs and design it is like Magellan RoadMate 800 released last year. New functions include: traffic state tracking and Magellan SayWhere function converting text to speech info.

The RoadMate 860T is equipped with a 3.5” LCD, 20GB HDD and an expansion slot for SD cards. It supports MP3 playback. The navigator will be shipped with the NAVTEQ maps of Canada, Puerto-Rico and 50 US states. The release is expected in early May. The approximate price makes up$800.

Late in 1Q 2006 Motorola planned to release its slim Motorola Q communicator. Now we have a confirmed info on the sales start in April. At the company’s site there appeared a promo page devoted to this device. Motorola Q was officially announced in 3Q 2005 and it the model was even rumored in the beginning of this year to be cancelled.

Motorola Q stands out for its unique slim width – mere 11.5 mm. This is a candy bar communicator with the QWERTY-keyboard located under the screen. It is powered by Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system and equipped with a 1.3-megapixel camera, a 2.4” QVGA (320x240 pixel) 65K color LCD and an expansion slot for miniSD cards. There are Bluetooth, IrDA and USB interfaces. There is no info on the price.

The Japanese operator KDDI has announced its new mobile phone W43T made by Toshiba. It supports CDMA 1X WIN network. One of the advantages of this phone is the support of “3D Nabi” operator’s service, which is a GPS service with 3D maps. There is also the support of a music “au LISTEN MOBILE SERVICE” recently launched by the operator. The start of sales is set for April.

Research In Motion (RIM) and Vodafone are preparing the release of a communicator called BlackBerry 8707v. The official announcement hasn’t yet taken place, however main specs and photos have already leaked into the Internet. The new model is based on the 8700, but unlike it the 8707v can work in 3G UMTS networks. There is not yet any info on the official release date and the price.

The main specs of BlackBerry 8707v:
