Analytics: smartphones force out PDA actively    [ 28-03-2006 13:55 ]

Author: Verà Kozlova     Translation by:    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The analytical company Computer Industry Almanac has published its survey on the smartphones and PDA market dynamics with the forecast. In 2003 the world PDA sales outpaced smartphone sales by 70%. In 2005 the smartphone-PDA ratio was 3.1:1, in 2006 it is predicted to be 5:1. The smartphone sales are ever growing and they will 11 fold higher than PDA sales in 2011.

Depending on the region we can see a great dispersion. Well, in Europe the smartphones were to PDA as 6.5:1 last year and will be 13:1 in 2011. In the US the situation is different. PDA were still the leaders in 2005, however under the forecast smartphones will eventually outgrow PDA in 2006 and will lead 4.4:1 in 2011.

According to the company, increased PDA functionality might prevent from the future sales drop. Navigation opportunities and in a couple of years mobile TV are expected to protect the PDA market from the downturn in future.

Double slider LG phone SD910 already available. The Korean buyers of BMW 3, 5, 6 and 7 series will also have LG SD910    [ 28-03-2006 13:32 ]

Author: Serge Novikov     Translation by:    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Today the South Korean company LG Electronics has officially announced the start of sales of its new mobile phone SD910, which stands out for its double slider design, i.e. the parts of the phone slide in two directions. “Duo slide” design of the new phone was created by the other South Korean company – SK Telecom.

I’d mark text-to-speech function in addition to landscape sliding 2” LCD. By sliding the LCD the user can access the buttons to control a built-in audio player. Like any modern handset the SD910 is equipped with a 1.3-megapixel camera with video capture opportunity.

In its press release LG Electronics noted that LG SD910 would be supplied with BMW 3, 5, 6 and 7 series cars sold in the South Korea.
