Samsung to apply AM OLED LCD in its high-end cell phones    [ 24-03-2006 16:53 ]

Samsung plans to apply active matrix (AM) OLED LCD in its high-end cell phones supporting DMB. By the end of the year the company intends to have built its factory in Cheonan with the production capacity of some 20 million 2-2.6” diagonal LCD.

AM OLED LCD have much better specs than TFT LCD. A spokesman of Samsung said the pixel switch speed (matrix response) is 10 thousand fold high in 4G AM OLED LCD than in TFT LCD.

A new clamshell phone Samsung SGH-T319 has been approved by the US Federal Communications Commission 9FCC). It seems that the new phone doesn’t differ much in technical specs from its predecessor, a tri-band GSM 850/1800/1900 phone T309. The latter is currently available at T-Mobile. The key change of the new model is the support of Bluetooth.

Samsung has introduced its mobile music phone SPH-S4300. It is made as rotator, when closed it looks like an MP3-player with a color LCD. The phone is equipped with an FM-tuner and supports MP3, WMA, WAV and OGG. There is a small screen with a 128x200 pixel resolution and supporting 262K colors.

In addition to music functionality the phone is equipped with a 1.3-megapixel camera with video capture opportunity. Dimensions are 89x49x21 mm. The phone will appear in Korea at KTF operator and probably at SKT under the name of the SCH-S430. There is no exact info on the release date, so far.

Today Motorola has announced the release of øåô new mobile phone E1070. This is a 3G model packed in a clamshell form. It was officially introduced in October.

The handset is designed for UMTS and tri-band GSM networks. It is equipped with two cameras, one of them 1.3-megapixel. Its internal LCD features a 2” diagonal, QVGA (240x320 pixels) resolution and 262K colors. It has an MP3-player, 64MB memory onboard, an expansion slot for microSD (TransFlash) cards. There is the support of stereo sound via Bluetooth interface.

In the Internet appeared some info, which is not yet officially confirmed, on another new phone by Nokia, i.e. Nokia N73. It is supposed to be somewhat simpler than the N93. This smartphone doesn’t have the support of Wi-Fi wireless networks, and its built-in camera won’t have optical zoom.

The N73 is the successor of Nokia N70. Its camera will feature a 3.2-megapixel resolution, Carl Zeiss lens and auto focus function. There are also stereo speakers and Bluetooth 2.0 interface. The model is supposed to work on S60 v3, Symbian v9.1 platform and support UMTS networks and video telephony. There haven’t yet emerged photos of Nokia N73.
