Samsung YP-F2: a small MP3 player with LCD    [ 15-03-2006 18:33 ]

At CeBIT 2006 Samsung has introduced its new flash MP3 player YP-F2. It weighs just 21 g. The player is equipped with LCD. There is the support of MP3, WMA, OGG and WAV. Its battery provides up to 12 hours of playback.

The release is expected in April. There will be introduced versions in Black and White shells. Flash memory onboard varies: 512 MB, 1 GB or 2 GB. The approximate price in Europe will be $105, $140 and $227 depending on memory size respectively. This year we expect the release of the YP-F2R player equipped with an FM-tuner.

Today Sony Computer Entertainment has published a press release setting the official release date of its new game console PlayStation 3 (PS3) in Japan, America and Europe – the beginning of November 2006 before the Christmas sales. I’d remind you that the company initially planned the release of PS3 this spring.

The press release states that PS3 supports final specification of optical disks Blu-ray with 50 GB of maximum capacity. The connection to the network is possible via 1GB Ethernet. Besides the new console is compatible with ordinary TV sets as well as with HD TV sets (high-definition TV).

Asus has showed at the current CeBIT 2006 exhibition an upcoming smartphone P525 with the support of Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) wireless networks. There is an automatic switch between cell and Wi-Fi networks. It is powered by Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system, Intel XScale PXA 270 processor, 64 MB RAM and 128 MB flash memory.

The LCD supports a QVGA (240x320 pixels) resolution. There is a digital keyboard. Besides the smartphone is equipped with a 2-megapixel camera with auto focus, an expansion slot for miniSD cards and Bluetooth 1.2 interface. Later we expect more detailed info on the device.

Internet telephony has been gaining ever more popularity, thus there appear more and more solutions for it. D-Link has announced its DPH-540 mobile phone designed for Wi-Fi networks, flip phone lovers should like the model. According to the company, this is the first Wi-Fi phone in such form-factor. It looks like an ordinary flip phone, but it is slightly bigger.

There is special software for VoIP by TelTel preinstalled, the company provides international Internet-telephony services based on SIP protocol. The shipments of the DPH-540 are expected to start this summer. The recommended price makes up $249.99.

Motorola has unveiled the name of its new smartphone Motorola MING, which was earlier known as the A1200. The company also confirmed the shipments to distributors have already been started in Hong Kong. According to the press release the Chinese hieroglyph “ming” represents a combination of the symbol of the sun and the moon meaning brightness, openness and understanding.

The MING smartphone is powered by Linux OS. It has a translucent flip cover for the touchscreen LCD.
